ID:	95534Several years ago I purchased an ATCO workholding fixture. My plans to
setup a ram EDM fell through and the fixture was put on the shelf. The unit
is new and never used. Atco is known to make precision tooling and this
guy needs to be put to work. I have some pictures if anyone is interested

We have a robofil 330f. After powering it on this morning we found that the z axis will only move a few inches before alarming out. I have had the same problem on our robofil 310 and did axis setup for the z and that fixed the problem. I cant figure out how to do it on the 330f with the different control. Anybody have any info on this? Thanks

Sodick K1C Popping circuit breaker....

Hi there,

We've got a Sodick K1C that gets quite a bit of use. It's about 2 years old and it's now popping a circuit breaker- It seems to be the breaker for the main machining current. In any case, we've scoped around, checked the brushes at the head, checked the grounds, looked for loose connections, and so forth. There are no obviously burnt circuit board traces or components. Anybody have any suggestions what else to check? It pops randomly, every part or two. Right now we're just going to keep running it as Sodick is saying they are over a month out to come and check it out, and we have parts that must ship.

TIA for any help

Floppy Drive for Mits floppy disks

$

I have for sale a brand new 3.5" floppy drive that has been modified to read all Mitsubishi EDM floppy disks. (Note, this drive is for a PC only, it will NOT work in a machine, although I can get those as well...)

I purchased this about 6 months ago from Sydex in Oregon, very knowledgeable people who are extremely friendly and helpful on the phone. At the time I was working on a floppy-USB conversion for the older Mitsubishi's but I eventually abandoned the project and never used this drive. As it was custom built for me I cannot return it.

From Sydex these are $200+shipping and lead time, I'd be happy to let it go for $150 shipped (USA) to anyone interested in such an item. Could be handy for backing up software, parameter and E-pack disks and such for older machines. Will work for FX, CX, H, H1, H', HA, C, CR, SA, SB, SX, and SZ wire EDM, as well as M, K, MK, V, VX, and EX sinker EDM's. (EA, VA, and FA machines are all windows based and do not require special hardware).

Use of this drive requires proprietary software that you can download from Sydex. Full instructions, along with download links for the software are included with the drive.

Please feel free to PM or Email me with any questions.

-Pete

Sodick A320D sensor touch

$

I've recently bought a '95 A320d/ex21.
My problem is that the "ST"(sensor touch, ie wire making contact with edge of workpiece) light is on all the time, thus inhibiting any useful function. This is happening even when there is no wire in the machine and the power cables are disconnected at the tank. I assume this function operates by sensing contact between the power and earth cables in the tank?
Can anyone suggest where to look? Alternatively, is it possible to disable this function until I get a handle on it?

I bought an A530D from the same source at the same time and that is working fine. I saw the A320 working with its previous owner, but it has travelled 1500Km since then.

EDM process technical questions (not a production set up!)

I built a little 30kHz 60VDC 10amp power source and am having success making millions of sparks.

I've studied the Machinery's Handbook and poked around the internets. I haven't had any success with metalic electrodes, but graphite works, barely. Maintaining spark gap is next on the list, then de-ionized water as dielectric.

The frequency and current are adjustable, and the spark gap will soon be. On my first attempt cutting a razor blade, it took about 45 minutes using air as the dielectric. Obviously having re-cast trouble, so I'm hopping switching to water will be a huge leap. I'm going to the drug store to get de-ionized water and have a submersible pump to do the flushing. Nothing for filtering just yet.

Since I've never seen an EDM in the flesh, I'm thinking there are lots and lots of little traps that I'm missing. I'd appreciate you pointing out any you see, bearing in mind this is just a little hobby toy.

Thank you!

EDM drill versus hole popper versus tap remover versus ????

$

As usual searching on what I think are the right search terms has not answered my question, so I ask here.

I take it an EDM drill is effectively a Ram/Sinker machine with only Z axis control, and any X-Y movements would be completely manual?

Is "hole popper" just a term for an EDM drill?

And a tap remover is just a much cheaper/cruder/more limited version of these, yes? (A tap disintegrator wouldn't be expected to be useful for making well shaped or sized holes, where one assumes an EDM drill would be?)

Is a "Z-CNC" edm ram really very different from an EDM drill?

Any especially good or especially bad brands?

The applications are pretty much in line with a machine somewhere between a tap disintegrator and what I think an EDM drill is. Removing broken tools. Removing oversized dowel pins :mad5: Drilling good quality holes, sometimes blind, into hardened materials (but location matters.) Drilling blind square and blind hex holes.

I have no doubt that a full-on CNC Ram machine of sufficient size could do these tasks, and also no doubt that I don't want to pay for one.

Also I have good CNC chip making machines, so milling complicated shapes into telluride-copper or the like seems quite doable.

Thx

I have an Accutex AH-35CA Edm Drill and this morning when powering up, the contact alarm stays on (no electrode or chuck in the upper head) and will not move without the contact override button being depressed. It was running fine Friday. I'm not getting much support from the Accutex techs, they don't seem to know much about this model. I have rebooted the software, checked for blown fuses, and really can't find anything out of the ordinary. The bossman is gettin kinda frustrated with me. Any help?

Hi

Have to do some tests on cutting some 0.4mm holes in some stainless hose connectors on my Astec cdh 2am.

While ordering the guide i was told that an additive would help greatly in producing a less tapered hole.

Mitsubishi FA series machining vs FX?

I haven't been on here in awhile but I was hoping there is someone who can help me. I have been running a FX wire machine for at least 10 years but now my shop just bought a used FA wire machine and we don't have any support. Does anybody know where I can look up what the differences might be between the 2 machines so I can get started running it? Or possibly have a tutorial or something? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

E164 error on Sodick AP500

$

Hello every one,

I apologize in advance for my English, I am French.

I am a trainee in a company in the US and we use an EDM machine for really basic cutting. Most of the time, it is only to cut square patterns on parts.

However, I've had a big issue with the Z axis lately. After starting the EDM one morning, I was completely unable to move any axis. Every time I jogged just a hair X, Y or Z, I got "E164 - Machine over moved. Release from heat switch."
I found a post on this forum http://www.practicalmachinist.com/vb...e-e164-204598/ but to restart the machine after waiting a few minutes did not work.

Seeking a way to go around this problem, I found that switching OFF the "Heat" parameter in "SET", "AXIS" and "Z_AXIS" makes me able to move X and Y. But Z is still down. Numerical values on the screen are moving when I jog Z, but not the axis itself.

It has been a while that I am on this problem and no way to find a solution ... I can cut samples as long as my sample is not too thick ...

I hope someone is gonna be able to help me out with this issue :)

Thank you !

Mits DWC110SZ - backing up everything possible from control memory via RS232

$

Since I finally got the RS232 working thanks to the help here, I thought it would be smart to back up everything I can from the control to text files just to have as a back up.

The control shows the list of things you can output... NCPro, VAR, E.Pak, etc... and at the end of the list it has as option #7 - "ALL"

But when I chose 7 (ALL) it gave me an E01 error - which the book says is a setting error. If I were a guessing man, I would guess that the control will not allow sending "all" out via RS232.. and that is the setting error.

So I started doing things individually... on the programs... that was time consuming... one at a time.
In the VARS I had only one entry for the current wire size, so didnt download that.
Got the E.Paks... but then started getting into things I didnt know the answer to...

Looking at P.ERR, PARAM, and 2nd-V - when doing the out put, it asks for a "from" and "to" for output. And I have not yet found the tables to identify what the range is.

For P.ERR its looking for an "AX" style number - guessing these are axis corrections for the ball screw pitch error.
PARAM - its looking for an "ADR" style number.
And for 2nd-V its looking for "H" values.

Would have been really nice to just choose "all" and send em out. But no dice.

Any suggestions on a way that might be faster to output everything? Or where I would find the tables for the three I have not done yet so that I can output them and save them for future reference/disaster/OS reinstall etc?

Thanks!
Wade

dear friends
i have HURCO 900M spark erosion machine
power board failed so i repaired it
this all took above two months and now there is no x y z axis movement!
meanwhile i found out that battery on logic board has failed!
would this be the reason for no xyz movement?
sparking is ok if i check the sparking manually by putting wire between electrode and ground.
how the xyz motors are fed supply and how can i check the normal machine movement without battery?
please help!

Hi,
I am posting this for a friend who would like to know if anyone has machined a carbon electrode for sinking, using a wire EDM machine? He will be using a JAPAX model LU3B with the 3F control cutting POCO and would like to know proper settings etc to do a decent job.

Thanks in advance for any replies.

I am looking at hole poppers manual and CNC. There is a line out there called Edm Drillmate .There out of Erie PA.I have heard good and bad story's.I heard the owner Chris Perseo is a real jack ass.I know a service guy that worked there and said his profit margins are very high and all he cares abt is money and nothing else. His service guy for the last 10yrs is Kevin.Hes a 1 man service team .Edm drillmate would go under without him hes the only guy that knows the machines.Thats why I am concerned abt buying one of these machines .Has anyone had any good experiences or bad ?
