Agiecut - Agie HSS - Agie Classic question

$

I think all of the machines of this same type machine has the same basic set up for the wire drive.

I am posting a picture of the part in question. It looks like a small solenoid and it is mounted directly above the steel wire drive wheel. I believe its purpose is to send current through the wire to tell when it is properly threaded.

The question is should there be a gap (how much) between the plunger and the steel wheel or is it supposed to touch the wheel?

If anyone who has one of these machines could take a look for me it would be greatly appreciated.

Also if anyone could give an exact explanation of what this does and how it works that would be great also.

Thanks GaryClick image for larger version.

Hi I am fairly new to the wire EDM world.

I have a Sodick vz300

I have a customer asking me if wire EDM changes the temper/properties of the material. They also asked if it does change, how much into the part from the edge/cut area would it affect?

Any info would really help.

thank u.

Wire threading on Agie HSS 150

We have an old Agie HSS 150 machine which, in part due to users here, is working pretty well for our needs. Most of the people using the machine, including me, are pretty new to EDM and have mostly been modifying already existing programs instead of creating them from scratch. On this machine that means job files, tech files, and geometry files. So far, every time we run a program the machine will cut the wire and then rethread it. For the most part this is just an annoyance, but it makes starting right next to the part or in a hole that is too small to auto thread through impossible. Any info on how to get in not to cut and rethread the wire would be much appreciated.

I also want to give a plug to Bret Bradak at Superior Technology in La Grange IL. He came to our facility to work on the machine. He was very knowledgeable, easy to work with, didn't mind teaching as he went, and I thought his price was quite reasonable for the service we received.

Does anyone here know how to tell the machine to start at non-similar xy/uv points inside mastercam? (so that it shoots it out already in the code) I'm sure it's simple but I'm not seeing it... Just been editing the first few lines of code by hand.

Dielectric fluid for Sinker EDM Where and what to buy

I have been running 3 Swiss EDM machines since the early 60's. My dad always ran kerosene in them and so that is what I have run in them as well. I'm past ready to make the switch. I am looking for advice on what to buy, and from where to buy it. I'm looking for something less volatile, safer for my environment and less smelly. I have had Rustlick 500 recommended, is there anything better to use and why? I EDM steel and titanium mostly, sometimes tantalum, niobium and copper using copper alloy electrodes. I am aware I will need to clean all the old crap out of the system and use new filters. Advice would be appreciated.

Hey guys,

First of all i wanna say hi. Im new here And im actually very happy that i found out fórum like this where we can talk About machines, problémy, etc. So im looking forward to talk with you guys :)

But to not have only "Hi im...." I'd like to ask you guys something too.
Im working on EDM wire machines And those are Mitsubishi (Fa10S, FA20s, MV1200S) And im standing against some things that i Dont undestand so much right now.

I wanna to work with Multiple zero points but from Manual its kind of NotThatGoodToUnderstand.
So if its somebody here who knows how to do it And can pass it to mě in a few Steps, i would be very, very happy :)

If its TLDR, sorry :D

Mitsubishi DWC110H system software

Hi

I recently purchased a 1986 Mitsubishi DWC110H wire edm. I got the machine set up and now it comes up with "WIRE CUT W7 NOT READY". From what I have read on the forum, this means the software needs to be reloaded. I found the page in the manual on how to do this, but I do not have the system disks.

Would someone be able to send me a zip file or something of there disks?

Does anyone have any other ideas on where to get the software?

If I am able to get the software, am I able to send it to the machine through RS232 and a computer? The manual says I need a special external floppy drive that plugs into the RS232, But I am wondering if one could use just a regular computer to send it to the machine?

Thanks in advance

Brent

Sodick USB drives (how to make em)

These guys told me that ONLY sodick usb drives can be used in the sodick EDM.... huh? is there something special about the drive?

well it just so happens that I orders a CNC2USB box and it came with a mushkin prospector drive that is identical to the sodick drives (external features, housing etc) so this got me to thinkining that there is probably nothing special about the drives.

We had 2 sodick drives, both the mushkins, both 4gb. the original drive was formatted FAT (fat partitions must be 4gb or less) the drive we just ordered was formatted fat 32. both sodick drives work.

- Do a full format of a drive 4gb or less to fat 32.

- go to windows folder options and remove the check box for "hide protected operating system files"

- go to your sodick drive and you should now see the hidden folder "system volume information"

- Select ALL files/folders in the root directory inside the original sodick drive.

- Press Copy (Ctrl+C)

- Goto your other newly formatted drive and paste all the files into the folder. you will get some warnings about overwriting the system volume file. follow the prompts ensuring to select the correct options to allow all folders to be overwritten.

windows will copy all the files and at the end you will get another warning telling you there is two folders with the same name. go ahead and allow the overwrite.

- put code into the NCfile folder and plug it into the sodick.

special note... i tried this on multiple drives and it did not work on all of them I am not sure why.

Replacing transfer hoses on sinker EDM, What material choices?

Related to my earlier post about these newfangled dielectric oils y'all are using I am trying to suss out compatible hose/tubing materials. My old Charmilles has about 20' of 1-1/8" ID hose for feed and drain purposes with hose clamp and barb fittings all around. I doubt the pressure exceeds 50 psi in any case. The old hoses are 1- brittle and subject to breaking and 2- contaminated by my old dielectric fluid. I'd rather not pump all the new stuff out onto the shop floor.
So, what do I look for and who supplies it? All the dealers of EDM supplies I've talked to seem to have no idea. As far as looking up compatibility charts for chemical resistance, no one lists EDM dielectric oil in any shape or form.
Thanks
Ron

Anyone using Peps 10 for their Agie?

$

So my company let the software maintenance expire and didn't renew it. They set me up with a new computer and now when I program with Peps, I have to go into Machining and select my machine type. I click the button to set this as the default machine and it asks me for the password. Not real sure what password they're looking for? I've tried using the password I received with the software but it will not take. This is the newest password that was set to me. Any ideas? Thanks

What is the best wire EDM Machine to buy?

I have been running a Brother HS 50 Wire EDM since new in 2003 and now we are looking to buy another new machine. What is everyone's opinion on what machine is the best? I know I have not had many problems with the Brother but I am wanting to see if there are machines that run faster, low downtime, better cost per inch to run, that kind of thing. Thanks for all of the input everyone can give here. It is a lot of money and just looking to spend wisely.

Agiecharmilles VP3 error

I am completely new to wire EDM. My work purchase one and it's the only one we have. I had a 4 day crash course to run this expensive machine. It's now been 5 months of playing around. It's not used for production parts , just shop fixes and engineering changes of hole moved stuff like that. Ok here is my problem. I tried to burn with a height of 110 mm 1st time something this tall.) the machine feed me this error message:
Height of the allowed machine area lower than the piece piece. I'm sure it's just a z height accidentally hit bit I can't figure it out. Like I said I'm new to this and themachine. I'm the only one took the lead to run it. Hopping someone one with a AgieCharmilles can shed some light my way.

Hey guys, got a question about fitting punches and punch holders.

Boss is telling me that he always cuts both pieces in one cut, no skims. I'm wondering if anyone has had any success doing this, because I can't seem to make it work.

Thanks, I appreciate all you responses.

So, we're getting a Makino U-6 in the next few weeks and I'm looking for some isolation pads to set it on, and I'm not having much luck.

To those who have bought and installed a 12k pound WEDM, where did you get the iso pads at?

Fanuc Cut Monitor v4.1 and UL/DL program files

Hello all, the setup here for years to connect our 3 Fanuc Robocut Wire EDM machines was via RS232 Cables and a switchbox. I finally talked my boss into switching over to ethernet and I have setup Cut Monitor Edition:4.1

My main problem so far is the older 1iA machine isn't allowing me to upload or download programs to or from the PC. I can ping the machine interface just fine. The latency isn't as good as the 2 newer a-iC machines but but I get:

Minimum = 17ms, Maximum = 164ms, Average = 58ms (0% Loss) 100 packets sent/received (the 0ic and 1ic both get <10 ms pings)

The problem comes in when I try and use the Program Management utility to try and send programs to the 1iA. I get an error that states:

The system cannot establish communication.

Error Number: 0x839

I have tried changing the setting on the 1iA to those similar in the 0iC and 1iC that are working great but nothing has helped. I've tried changing the port numbers from 9001 to 8193 (and I've changed the corresponding entries in the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services file to reflect the changes I made) but it did not help.

I have also tried it in the default FACTOLINK setting as well as switching it to the FOCAS1 Ethernet setting that the 1iC and 0iC work with but again, it did not help.

Lastly, I have also tried changing the machine type in the Machine Settings in the Program Management Utility to the Robocut Aplha iB and Alpha iC but yet again, it did not help.

I would really appreciate any thoughts on the matter. Thanks guys. Oh yes, almost forgot, the Data Control application v 3.20.0.2 doesn't list anything at all. Even when I can successfully both upload and download files from the Alpha iC machines, the entries in the Data Control applet are all empty dashes.

Burning an electrode with angled detail

This may be common knowledge but I could use some help.
How do I correctly burn an electrode with angled detail?
We use global overburn (x,y,z) and if I have an electrode shaped like this \_/ I can blend the bottom and straight sides but not the angled sides. It seems to always burn into the steel.
Is it because we are using global overburn? Am I using the wrong orb program i.e.(down/orb,isogap)?
I understand that it comes down to trigonometry but what is the correct way going about this?
Thank you in advance.

Looking to buy an EDM

Looking to buy a wire edm, general shop use, up to about 1/2" thick, soft steel, hardened steel, tool steel, type materials.

Not wanting anything too large, 200mm x 200mm cutting area would be fine. So far have been looking at Sodick 320 machines.

What make/model machine would be suitable, would have to buy used not new, and what is support/spares like for out of production machines?

Also what size footprint would this size of machine take? and what size power supply would it need?

Many thanks

I am running EDM Mark IV machine and for the short period I have been working on it I have got to master a lot on my own, now the challenge came when I came across the UV axes after I realized I can eliminate some further process just by wire cutting a come off some work using the machine above! Can someone please help be on how to program the taper cutting on the above machine? Even if with some sample program I will really appreciate to start up with. thank you.

Mits MV-2400R crash problems

Hello everyone, we recently had a pretty bad crash on our Mits, and after a reboot, wire alignment, and re-home-ing we are having an issue I haven't encountered before. Thought I'd throw it out here see if any of you have had it before. When we go to start a new cut, the machine moves back to the pre-alignment position in the U axis. Even though we have cleared that number and re-set the home position, and it does it on any program I try to start. Does this sound familiar to anyone and if so how did you fix it? Any help is very much appreciated.
