Hello, I have a seat of Surfcam traditional 2017 wondering if anyone is using this to program with. EDM Manufacturer is suggesting Esprit. I understand the Epack settings come from wire mf, but wonder how my seat of traditional will do?

Thanks

Sure First or Excetek? Does anyone have one of these?

Good morning everyone,
I have a Sure First DW342 wire cut, and it has a small "issue" regarding a code it requests every several months. It says "over usable time".
For what I investigated, the Excetek has the same OS and shares that code issue. Does anyone have one of these and knows how to get this code?

Cutting Tool distributor looking to add edm consumables to our offering

This is not spam I promise!

Just like the title says we are a very focused cutting tool distributor. We don't sell bolts we don't sell tp it's our MO to be very cutting tool focused and I think our clients like that. We sell a number of major lines and just about everything related to cnc machining short of machines and machine parts. The last 6 months I have gotten a lot of customers asking for me to supply edm consumables. I'll be honest I and my fellow salesmen know VERY little about EDM. A client of mine gave me the basics of wire and plunge.

That said I was hoping I could ask your advice on what lines and products to sell. Obviously wire but what brand etc and other than wire what else. Any help would be appreciated.

Hope someone has an idea about this. The tube coming from the wire chopper to the back is clogging up 2 or 3 times a day.
This just started with this regularity. It has clogged up before but stemming from other problems.
We have blow thru it from both sides from the back to the front we get chopped wire. From the front to the back we usually dont
get anything. We changed the filter and that seemed to help but its pretty much the same.
Any ideas? They tell me it is about a 4 hour job to replace that plastic tube.

Since i was able to move down with the Z (thanks to people helping here...) i realised that the upper hesd is way off compared to the lower one.

I dont think it is too "good".. See pic

First i thought that it is due to U / V not set to 90degs.
But it is not that.. looks like the upper assembly is not "aligned" to the lower.

Okay got a machine, cleaned up almost, getting ready to plug in and power up. Here is my quaetion. I have a Charmilles D10 with the p25 gen. Need advice on electrode holders, gluing electrodes to holders, holders for 3/4 x 3/4 x 2 electrodes to 2" diameter electrodes or 2 inch square. I find nothing anywhere concerning how to setup electrodes, examples, etc. No text books, videos or anyhting else. Still have to make sure it will run but I will be making steel marking dies for tools, knives, and leather stamps. Also impression die hubs. Thanks.

Can anyone recommend a local EDM shop in the Renton / Kent / Auburn WA area who can burn out a small broken carbide tool?

I have an aluminum fixture and a steel collet with the remnants of a 1/4” drill stuck in both. Would like to try to salvage both if possible.

Thanks for any recommendations...

I’m having trouble with with the x axis of the machine. It doesn’t home out and gives me a gross positioning error. Also when you jog, use the hand wheel or program it to move to a certain location in the x axis, it is very jerky and will move back and forth +/-0.010 of the location, it will continue to do so until it errors out or by turning the servo power off. We had the motor and the controller sent out to be repaired and when I got it back it’s still doing the same thing.

Any advice or service technicians that still work on these old machines to call would be greatly appreciated.

Charmilles Robofil 310 cutting speed problem

Good morning,

We have been having this unsolvable problem with our Robo 310 for quite some time now , E3 setting (u) XS25A.TEC - 30mm steel should get a speed of 3.8 speed/min ,yet the max speed is 1.2 but 0.8 for the most of the piece.

The Strategy values are reading as normal as they were before ,regardless, we cleaned the ground cables, changed spools, contact blades , signal cable ,cleaned the water tank and same result, values are reading as normal yet no change whatsoever in cutting speeds.

Any tip would be appreciated as at this point we are getting out of ideas as to what might be causing this.

Wire EDM Slot tapers top to bottom.

Hello,

I am new to wire EDM and we are cutting a slot that is about 4 inches deep and cuts into the material .125.

The slot at the top of the part is running .00985 and the slott at the bottom of the part is running about .00950.

So top to bottom the slot narrows about .00035.

.0060 wire running at 105 decameters per minute. Would increasing the wire speed reduce this taper?

Need Advice on buying EDM

Guys, new to the site as a member but have been trolling for a few years.

I am looking at bringing into the shop a used EDM machine and wanting some advice on what the costs would be and any pitfalls to avoid (brands, etc). Currently we go through 3-4 tons of aluminum round bar a month that requires a holes of varying sizes to be cut out of the middle. A good example is the following: 9.5” OD, raw stock with the final dims on the parts at 9.350”OD and 7.5” ID. In this size we will go through 24-36’ of this material each month, cut into 12” pieces. My thought is that I can use a wire EDM to rough out the material and also get a roughly 7.250” piece of material to use for other parts that I need it for anyway. I can also take the material out the middle of that 7.25” part and use it again for other parts that I need to make monthly.

The EDM would need to support 12”x12”x12” material. Speed it not a huge factor since I can put it into the production schedule pretty easily, but being able to run lights out would be a HUGE addition. The machine time and material savings this could offer seem to be significant, especially since we are essentially cutting circles that are not required to be exceptionally accurate.

What would you advise on this? I anticipate that the machine would work 20-30 hrs per week. I am especially needing ideas on running costs, both monthly and annually (such as how much wire would be used to cut the slug out of the 9.5" piece above, and how long it would take, etc).

Thanks for your help with this.

Wire EDM offsets for ALUM

Running a Sodick AQ537L with .010 wire. I'm not to familiar with cutting 6160 Alum. to high precision. I'm working on cutting slots in various widths and lengths thru, anywhere from
2.0 - 3.0in thick. My conditions are OPEN and I am dropping a slug on the rough pass. My tolerance is +.0002 -.0000 on both width and length. I'm creeping up on my size, but just curious if anyone can give me some pointers on offsets and conditions.
Thanks Alot

Fanuc Robocut

So I have a two part question. I should start with some back story I guess. I am a one man machine shop, I have two Robodrills, a Mori turning center and the related support equipment. I want to grow my shop, as I'm finding I can't flip enough parts on my own to pay myself very much. I could add an employee, I really don't want to. This topic has been covered more than once on PM. I was thinking of adding a wire machine to the mix to generate additional income.

So my first question is, does it make sense to add a wire. My thought process is that given how slowly a wire cuts, I could have that setup and running, while I throw parts in a Robodrill. I could bounce back and forth and have more machines running at the same time. Does this make sense? Or have I been in Colorado too long?

The second part is Robocuts. Given how happy I am with my Robodrills and Methods support (it is really good, a shout out to Darren, my sales guy for taking care of me), my first thought is to look at Fanuc for the wire. I don't think I've ever seen a Robocut in person. Almost every EDM shop I've been in had Charmilles machines. Are there any Robocut owners out there? And why don't I see any. Should I skip Methods on this and get a Charmilles?

Any thought would be greatly appreciated. Also, I don't want this to turn into a "my CAM system can beat up your CAM system" kind of thread, pick your poison and f'in work with it, it's not the best, but it's what your work with, good and bad.

Hi.
Need help.
I have an old Sodick die sinker and showing an error message states “electrode contact with work piece” but hasn’t. This renders operation useless. There is an over ride ST which allows the machine to move to what ever axis, but I cannot run a program due to this error.

Any help appreciated.
Cheers
